Principal, students, teachers and parents witnessed the auspicious occasion of the ground breaking ceremony for the Biabou Early Childhood Development Center.
Minister of National Mobilisation etc. and parliamentary representative for South Windward, Honorable Frederick Stephenson, was also present at the ground breaking ceremony.
The project is jointly funded by the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the Caribbean Development bank (CDB). The center would be a one story structure and consist of two classrooms; each having seating capacity of between 20-30 students. There will also be a sick bay, rest area, a play area, toilet facilities, a supervisor's office, storage area for teachers and a playground. A ramp will be installed to facilitate students who would be in a wheelchair and children with disabilities.
The structure was designed by Stewart Engineering Limited, who would also supervise the construction work. Jack Construction Company would undertake the construction of the Center.
It is estimated to cost the government $1,142,886.00 to construct the building and it is expected to be completed in 8 months. The Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) is the implementing agency for the project.
The ground breaking took place following the ceremony.
