Accreditation is about granting status to an institution that has met or exceeded stated standards of quality in the operation and delivery of its programmes. Formerly, the College programmes were examined on the basis of the City and Guilds of London Institute, Royal Society of Arts, Pitman Institute of London and local syllabuses. A certificate endorsed by the Ministry of Education used to be issued and this was based on a local assessment of whether the standards had been met.

The St. Vincent Technical College, in its commitment to excellence, quality assurance and control of its new programmes, has accepted the challenge of accreditation by an international body.

Accreditation is being sought from the National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET), Jamaica. NCTVET is the authorised body, which is empowered to improve, integrate and standardise, the TVET system in Jamaica. Accreditation from NCTVET will, in future, provide the means of testing and evaluating the programmes and recognising those individuals who meet the required standards for industry.

This will benefit students, training providers as well as the employers and business interests within the community; since the qualifications acquired at the end of the programmes will be recognised, not only in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, but within the whole region and indeed, internationally.
