Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Digital Transformation and Information, Hon. Laverne King, and Ms Janeil Henry-Rose (Secretary General, SVG National Commission for UNESCO), on Wednesday, 15th April 2026, met with Ms Fumiko Ohinata (left), Secretary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) at UNESCO.
The meeting explored, among other matters, the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ intention to incorporate the Garifuna language into the national education curriculum. Discussions were also held on advancing the recognition of Nine Mornings as a protected element of the country’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).

The engagement outlined a practical timeline and a clear framework to support implementation. Dialogue remains ongoing across areas of education, science, and heritage cooperation.
