Most schools across the country will resume normal, face-to-face operations on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026, following the recent severe weather conditions that affected the nation.

The overwhelming majority sustained no significant infrastructural damage and are prepared to reopen; however, a few institutions suffered heavy flooding and, most critically, the ongoing loss of a reliable water supply.

To ensure the health and safety of staff and students, the following schools will remain closed on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026, due to the active water situation:

  • Belair Government School
  • Belmont Government School
  • Brighton Methodist School
  • Calder Government School
  • Cane End Government School
  • Dorsetshire Hill Government School
  • Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia
  • Evesham Methodist School
  • Gomea Methodist School
  • Leeward District SDA Primary School
  • Marriaqua Government School
  • New Prospect Primary School
  • St. Joseph's Convent Marriaqua
  • West St. George Secondary School

In addition, the Buccament Bay Secondary School is temporarily activated as a shelter, and the South Rivers Methodist School will remain closed as a result of infrastructural damage.

Parents and guardians are advised to monitor individual notifications sent directly by their child’s school administration. Updates regarding the reopening of these specific institutions will be provided in due course.

As recovery efforts continue across the country, families and communities are urged to remain vigilant and exercise continued caution to keep our children safe during this time.
